
Prof. Hazarika graduated from Gauhati Medical College, under Gauhati University, Assam, India, in the year 1983 with a diploma in Radio-Diagnosis (DMRD) from Assam Medical College, under Dibrugarh University, Assam, India, in the year 1986 and an MD in Radio-Diagnosis from the same university in the year 1989.
Prof. Hazarika has contributed to the upliftment of radio-diagnosis in the state of Assam in different capacities during the service period of more than 30 years in the form of the development of new departments in new medical colleges and the introduction of postgraduate courses in medical colleges, and he contributed to getting reorganisation from the controlling body (MCI) in the capacity of professor and head of the department. Prof. Hazarika is a pioneer in the field of development and growth of ultrasonography and colour Doppler in the entire northeastern region of India and also worked for the development of mammography, as well as doing regular work on CT and MRI.
He has contributed to the field of medical education, particularly in the area of radio-diagnosis, serving as a guide and co-guide for numerous postgraduate theses in radiology, obstetrics and gynaecology, ear, nose, and throat, and surgery, among others, in the capacity of assistant professor, associate professor, and professor of radiology from 1995 to date at Gauhati University, Assam University, and SSUHS, Guwahati. He is also an examiner at various universities, including Gauhati University, Dibrugarh University, Assam University, SSUHS at Guwahati, and Calcutta University. He is also a postgraduate examiner at various universities and an examiner for the National Medical Board, New Delhi.
Prof. Hazarika's professional activities are diverse and far-reaching. He has served as both a technical expert member and the chairman of various technical committees responsible for procuring high-end medical equipment in state and central government institutes. His role as an inspector of the MCI has taken him to various medical colleges across India to appraise postgraduate seats. He also serves as an inspector for Gauhati University, responsible for the approval of the opening of a radiation physics course at BBCI, a central government-run cancer institute. His expertise is also recognised on various recruitment boards in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and other areas. He is a member of the governing body and recruitment board of TRIHMS (Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences), Arunachal Pradesh.
He has attended numerous national and international conferences and Continuing Medical Education (CME) sessions accredited by the Medical Council of India at the state, national, and international levels. He has graced various conferences as both a faculty member and a guest lecturer. He also presented many scientific papers at different CMEs and conferences. He has presented many scientific lectures as a guest at state-level conferences and other educational workshops.
He has published over 30 scientific articles in various peer-reviewed journals, including national and international publications, in the fields of radiodiagnosis and other medical specialities. He is also a regular contributor of columns to state newspapers (Assamese and English) of national repute, addressing various contemporary issues, including health. He is a life member of IMA and an Emeritus member of the Indian Radiology and Imaging Association. He served the organisation in various capacities at both the state and national levels, including Joint Secretary, State Branch (IRIA); Central Committee Member (IRIA); Vice President, State Branch (IRIA); and President, State Branch (IRIA), among others. He was one of the organising committee members for the National Level Golden Jubilee Conference of the parent body of the Radiology & Imaging Association, IRIA-Goldcon-97. He is a founder member of the Academy of Health Research and Medical Education.
